Reverse Camber or not? Which snowboard should i Buy?

I’m going to Mammoth. I want to rip the parks, but also spend heaps of time in the powder.
I’ve been told to go for reverse camber. I don’t know too much about snowboards and brands etc. and i have been asked by the people i have been staying with to put in a order of some types of snowboards they can look at and try get me a discount on.

a) should i go reverse camber?
b) which brand and model..

Please help!!!

Here is a recent blog post we di on reverse camber etc. I hope you find it helpful!

It might seem that there are a lot of new terms and new technologies floating around in the snowboard world these days, but what are these new developments…and are they really new at all? First off let’s look at the terms and developments. Camber refers to the most conventional snowboard design, where there is a little “bowing” to the board so as that the area just under the bindings is slightly lifted off of the snow when the board has no weight on it. Rocker (also called reverse camber) boards have a banana shape with the center (waist) being the low point and a gradual rise up to the lifted tip and tail. “Spoons” can be used on either rocker or traditional camber boards and have an area at the tip and tail where the edges are raised above the center of the base so that when the board is laying flat the edges are not in contact with the snow (the tip and tail have a spoon shape when viewed from above, thus the name). So is any of this actually new and how does it help or hurt the ride?

If you have ever heard the phase, there is nothing new under the sun, well…the same applies here. Morrow Snowboards (now owned by K2) produced a very popular model almost 15 years ago that was aptly called The Spoon. At that same time many of us were experimenting with rocker profile boards. Funny enough these were mostly factory mistakes that were given away for free. But, we quickly noticed that they were very good at certain things. These designs effectively keep the nose and tail edges out of the way more than camber designs. For many freestyle moves, presses, tree slides, rail grinds, etc, this can be a benefit. On the other hand, in most cases, some edge contact area is lost, and that leads to less overall precision and control, especially on hardpack and ice. Now, the true believers are going to tell you that these “new” designs are actually better in all conditions. That is an overstatement. These can be great boards, but it should be said that they are very much specific-use boards and they are almost always the wrong choice for freeride, All Mountain or backcountry use.
