Is it true that the sun never sets during the summer time in Alaska?

I heard this tonight on TV. Is this true? If yes, why? Please explain. I’m looking for a scentific explanation.

Yes it is true. What causes the seasons is the tilting of the earth’s axis. In the summer (for the northern hemisphere) the axis is tilted towards the sun. That means we are closer to the sun. Alaska is so far north that when the earth rotates and “night sets in” it is still exposed to the sun. If you are in Alaska, the sun looks like it is traveling in circles, instead or across the sky.

Also, in the winter, Alaska is almost always dark for the same reason, that the earth’s axis is tilted away from the sun.
